RHG: Even though Revealing His Glory Mailer - Even though

Even though

My Dad has a saying, “Tough times don’t last; tough people do.” He also loves the clarion call found in 1Corinithans 15:58 to be steadfast, immovable and abounding in the work of the Lord. When the inevitable tough times come, what is our response?

TLB Habakkuk 3:17-19 Even though the fig trees are all destroyed, and there is neither blossom left nor fruit; even though the olive crops all fail, and the fields lie barren; even if the flocks die in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be happy in the God of my salvation. 19 The Lord God is my strength; he will give me the speed of a deer and bring me safely over the mountains.

ESV Psalm 121:1-2 1I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Times were very tough in Habakkuk’s day. The super power of that generation; the mighty Babylonians, were on the rise and threatening to attack, and the beloved King Josiah of Judah had recently died. Habakkuk predicts the invasion of Judah and proceeds to argue with God over the “why” question. God does something in the heart and mind of Habakkuk to get him to come to the place of perspective and resilient faith.

Notice the word “even though”. Even though (despite the fact, albeit, nonetheless, although), I have no fruit, no flocks, no crops, no cattle and nothing in reserves, I will be happy, joyous in God alone. Despite extreme circumstances, Habakkuk was going to rejoice in the Lord!

Also note the “I will” statements. In the midst of very tough times, yet I will- Habakkuk was not going to waver. He was going to tough it out because he knew that God would provide salvation, strength, speed and safety. Even though the mountains seem high and endless, let’s rejoice in the Lord – the Maker of heaven and earth.

ESV 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
